Purification ritual to pray for one year of health and safety

In this festival, which is said to have a history of more than 1,000 years, a priest hangs a large 1-meter-diameter target with the word "鬼" (oni)  written in large letters on the approach to the shrine, and archers shoot through the target to drive out evil spirits and pray for good health and safety throughout the year.

After the ritual, a grand archery tournament will be held by nearby junior high and high school students and general attendees.
